CHAMPFLEURY, Jules Husson
1821-1889
A writer and critic, friend of Baudelaire and Duranty, Champfleury was closely involved with the realist movement even though at various times he quarrelled with most of its protagonists. His interest in caricature and naive art influenced Manet in the early 1860's, and in 1868 Manet designed an illustration and a striking poster for Champfleury's popular book about cats.
