BRACQUEMOND, Felix
1833-1914

Active in many artistic spheres, Bracquemond led the revival of original printmaking and the growing enthusiasm for oriental art in the early 1860's. He helped Manet with his prints and made portraits of him in pastel (1864) and etching (for Zola's 1867 pamphlet). His real achievements lay in the 200 or so plates that he produced while art director for the Haviland factory in Limoges. His friendship with Manet and the Impressionists led him to participate in three Impressionist Exhibitions, but he was never really in sympathy with their ideas or techniques.
