The Artists Mind

Don't get me wrong, by no means am I an artist. My intent in calling this column The Artist's Mind is that I hope to explore what might have been happening in the artist mind at a particular point in his/her life. For instance, What were the events leading up to van Gogh's admission to an insane asylum? What was the root of the friction between van Gogh and Gauguin when they shared a flat in Arles? Did you know that Rubens acted as a spy and a diplomat? Did you know that, because of Ruben's diplomatic skill he, practically single handily, prevented a war between two countries? After all, he fancied himself as a diplomat, not an artist. This column will explore the why of these events. Of course, I will write reviews of different exhibits. Make commentaries of various artists works. I have always been fascinated with forgery, so I will frequently delve into that as I did with my first article for MyStudios, The Art Forgery and the X-ray. But as the name of the column implies I will often dig into The Artist's Mind.
